WHAT UP GIRLZ! It’s SHACHI here and I’m about to get real REAL with you! Today I’m going to be talking about PERIODS, THE PILL and IUDS. Luckily for me I have a sister that was able to talk me through this whole process, but in the case that YOU don’t, well that’s what I’m here for!!
So, let’s dive RIGHT INTO IT. This might be a LIL TMI for you girlies BUT I get some pretty bad menstrual cramps! LOL. Like, I’m talking about call-in-sick to school because you’re doubling over in pain cramps! Because of this and some other issues (ACNE. BLEH.) I started taking the pill and BOOM! Everything started to clear up and my periods were MUCH more manageable! Top it all off with the pill being FREE…can you say YAS?! 😛
Due to the recent political events in the USA a lot of women are getting worried about access to health care during the next four years. I personally got super stressed, what would this mean for me and the pill? Would my family be able to afford it anymore? I didn’t want to take ANY chances soooo…I got an IUD! YAS YAS YAS!
In case you’re unsure, an IUD is basically this little t shaped birth control device that gets inserted into your uterus and works for up to 10 years! An IUD has the same benefits to your skin and periods as birth control, so of course I was like HELLO SIGN ME UP!
Now I’m gonna keep it 100 with you girlies, I was NERVOUS about getting the IUD put in – or as they call it “implanted.” The actual insertion process can be really terrible for some girls! Everyone is different. My sister told me to expect some discomfort but to take some advil and I’d be good. HAAAAAAAA. HA.
I’m not gonna lie to you … the implantation SUCKED. It really. Really. SUCKED. Basically if you get cramps multiply that by like TEN and that’s what it’s going to feel like… BUT only for about 20 seconds!
For the rest of the day I was in bed eating ice cream and watching netflix and experienced some mild cramping and general discomfort. I mean come ON there is a foreign object inside your body! Of COURSE it’s gonna be uncomfortable…but by the next day I was back to my regular activities!!!
So I know it’s a tad bit scary, but it’s been a week now and I don’t even notice it! I also don’t have to remember to take a pill every single day. And I feel calmer knowing that I’m ready for whatever the next four years will bring in terms of my health care – I feel like such a BOSS for taking charge of MY BODY!
For my IUD girlies, how has your experience been? Do you love it? Hate it? Let me know in the comments! And as always, am happy to answer ANY QUESTIONS you may have about the experience!
XOXO – Shachi
